Thomas Longboat of Canada (2:24:24) wins the Boston Marathon.

April 19, 1907

A member of the Onondaga tribe, Longboat becomes the first Native American to win the Boston Marathon. The race is marred by two incidents. In the first, the six lead runners are separated from the rest of the field by a train that takes a minute to runs across the route in South Framingham. In the second, runner Howard Pearce drops out at the eight-mile mark, gets a ride in a car to a spot a mile before the finish line, but is stopped by police before he can “complete” the race. Incidents similar to the latter one occur in 1916* and 1980.*
